We recently finished a custom ton bag order for a client in the produce industry, and we think it's worth sharing.
The brief was simple: onions and potatoes need airflow. Regular woven bags trap heat and moisture. In transit or long-term storage, that leads to sprouting, rot, and shrink - which directly hits the bottom line.
So we put together a breathable bulk bag that actually works for these crops. Here's what we came up with.
Black mesh top fill spout
The top opening is made from black mesh fabric. It's sturdy enough to hold its shape during filling, so operators don't have to wrestle with a floppy opening. The dark color hides dirt and wear from repeated use. And since it's mesh, air escapes as you fill - no ballooning, no wasted time.
White mesh body
The bag body is woven from white mesh. It's breathable - moisture and heat from produce respiration can escape instead of building up inside. Stack these bags in a warehouse or stuff them into a container, and the air still moves through. That's the whole point. The white color also makes it easy to spot any damage or contamination at a glance.
Blue lifting loops running around the body
Instead of just four separate corner loops, we ran continuous blue webbing around the bag. Forklift drivers and crane operators can spot the loops quickly. The full-wrap design also spreads the lifting force more evenly across the bag, so you're less likely to tear the fabric when picking up heavy loads.
Bottom discharge spout
Unloading is straightforward - pull the cord at the bottom, and the contents flow out by gravity. No tipping, no shaking, no extra manpower to empty the bag. It cuts down unloading time and keeps the product intact.
Who's it for?
Right now, we're seeing strong interest from onion exporters and potato processors. But honestly, any root vegetable or bulk crop that needs ventilation will work well in this bag.
